Nikki Berg Burin is an Assistant Professor of History and Women and Gender Studies at the University of North Dakota.  She earned her Ph.D. in History from the University of Minnesota.  Dr. Berg Burin’s research is focused on commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking in North Dakota and beyond.  She is currently working with The Digital Press at UND on an anti-trafficking zine project that will inform readers about sex trafficking in North Dakota past and present, challenge them to think about the nuances of the problem, and empower them to take action in their own lives and communities. The zine will feature contributions from survivor leaders, activists, and scholars across North Dakota.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Berg Burin is engaged in efforts to advance the status of women and girls in the state.  She is an active member of the North Dakota Women’s Network and has collaborated with the state’s anti-trafficking coalition FUSE and the North Dakota Human Trafficking Task Force.
