Matthew Mason is a board member, co-director of Historians Against Slavery, and a professor of history at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he has taught since 2003. He is the author of several articles in various journals, mostly on the intersection of slavery and politics in early American history. He is also the author of Apostle of Union: A Political Biography of Edward Everett (2016), and Slavery and Politics in the Early American Republic (2006). He is the co-editor of books including John Quincy Adams an d the Politics of Slavery: Selections from the Diary (2017), with David Waldstreicher; and Contesting Slavery: The Politics of Bondage and Freedom in the New American Nation (2011), with John Craig Hammond.
