Jason E. Allen is the executive director of the Mother Bethel A.M.E. Foundation and Museum in Philadelphia. Jason is also a museum consultant, specializing in programming, community engagement and development for his company, ABCDEdu, where he works with arts, culture and heritage organizations seeking to engage under-served and under-represented communities as well as contributes to Rutgers University’s Public History program.

Jason was executive director of the Camden County Historical Society in Camden, New Jersey, where he melded collections, community engagement and crowd sourcing together to expand the historical society’s stakeholder and funder networks. Previous to that, Jason was director of education and interpretation at Cliveden of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Germantown, Philadelphia, where he wrote Cliveden’s first interpretive plan, authored the permanent exhibit, “Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness?” and created a program connecting young playwrights, the performing arts, historic archives and a historic house museum. Prior to that, Jason was national student programs manager at the National Constitution Center, where his primary program was a real-time online deliberation between high school students from across the nation, called The Exchange. Jason was also the eastern region coordinator for the Pennsylvania Coalition for Representative Democracy (PennCORD), a coalition of state and national organizations committed to implementing civic education in classrooms and after school programs in Pennsylvania through grants for student democracy projects.

Jason serves on the boards of Historians Against Slavery and the New Jersey Association of Museums. He graduated magna cum laude from Montclair State University, with a B.A. in Education and History, after which he taught and wrote curriculum for high school Social Studies
in New Jersey.
