Conference call for papers
Human Trafficking: Awareness and Action.
This conference is a platform for faculty, university undergraduate and graduate students, and researchers from all disciplines to share original research on human trafficking, both awareness and action. Presentations are also welcome on other forms of human rights noted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The conference is co-sponsored by the USM College of Arts and Sciences, the USM Honors College and the USM School of Social Work.

Advocacy Training
If you are interested in hosting a (non-denominational) professional training workshop or participating in training on how to combat human trafficking, please indicate that in your proposal. Non-Professional organizations focusing on human trafficking can sign-up to make a presentation or set-up a display. All proposals will be vetted.

Proposals for presentations by faculty, students or professional advocacy organizations should be a maximum of 200 words. Proposals for professional organizations to set up a display should also be a maximum of 200 words and include a web link to the organization. All proposals will be vetted and may be considered for possible publication in a peer-reviewed academic journal.
Deadline to submit proposals: February 3, 2019 by 5 P.M (central).
Selected participants will be notified no later than Feb. 28, 2019 and sooner for earlier submissions.
Registration fees
Upon acceptance, a $50 registration fee for faculty and $15 for students is required to confirm participation. Payment details will be sent later to those accepted. We are exploring an option for a special edition of an academic journal to publish the best of the vetted papers.

The University of Southern Mississippi is located in Hattiesburg, MS., one of the main centers for the 1964 Freedom Summer. The University library also houses one of the nation’s best collection of civil rights documents that is open to qualified researchers.
Our conference keynote speaker is Rachel Moran. Her talk, which is open to the public, is co-sponsored by the University Forum.
Rachel Moran is an international speaker and abolitionist activist. She is the founding member of SPACE International (Survivors of Prostitution Abuse Calling for Enlightenment) and author of ‘Paid For – My Journey Through Prostitution’ (2013). She speaks regularly at the United Nations in New York, the European Parliament in Brussels and has spoken numerous times at Columbia and Harvard Universities and other noted international places of learning.
Rachel has travelled through more than twenty countries educating on the exploitation of prostitution. Rachel was centrally instrumental in bringing the Abolitionist (Nordic) Model to Ireland in two separate processes on either side of the Irish border, and has been responsible for identifying and unifying the more politically relevant voices in overseeing the recent emergence of the international survivors’ movement, which calls for the implementation of the Abolitionist Model worldwide.
